As a leading light heavyweight contender, throughout the late 70’s and early 80’s, Alvaro “Yaqui” Lopez, was considered one of boxing's greatest uncrowned champions. After a successful career, with over 70 professional fights, Lopez retired and opened Fat City Boxing Club in 2011. Yaqui was aware of the dangers of street life and realized the alternative, positive outlet boxing could provide for the at-risk youth in his area. He and his wife, “Beno” have dedicated their lives to getting kids off the streets and creating a sense of family at their gym. Although Tom Yankello had been a talented amateur boxer, shoulder and elbow problems kept him from pursuing a professional career. He, instead, turned his sights on coaching, quickly found that his curious nature and ability to break down fighting styles served as a great advantage. Training fighters since 1991, first at the Beaver County Boxing Club and eventually the renowned Tom Yankello’s World Class Boxing Gym, Tom helped mold and guide the careers of successful athletes, including IBF World champion Paul Spadafora, heavyweight contender Calvin Brock, Monty Meza-Clay, and all-time great, Roy Jones Jr. Tom’s philosophy that “Telling isn’t teaching” allows him to pass on well-earned knowledge of the fight game and valuable life lessons. Emanuel Steward accepted a part-time position as head coach of the KRONK Recreation Center’s boxing program in 1973, and after posting 21 victories, the KRONK boxers won the team title and started what would become one of the most historic teams in Boxing. Emanuel and the gym produced over 42 world champions, and some of the biggest names in boxing, including Milton “Ice Man” McCrory, Hilmer Kenty, Mark Breland, Michael Moorer and, the infamous, Thomas “Hit Man” Hearns. Although the original KRONK closed in 1990, through the efforts of Emanuel’s family, and many of the original KRONK stable of fighters, the gym has relocated and is reborn.

After retiring from the sport, as a WBA and IBA Super Bantamweight World Champion, Bones Adams converted a large garage behind his house into his personal gym in 2003. As requests for training came more frequently, and demand grew, Bones expanded it to be an inclusive, but exclusive training center in 2017. The personal feel of the gym, along with its supportive atmosphere, creates an environment of trust and comradery that that you don’t always find in the world of boxing. Even more than that, every time you walk in the gym doors, you’re under the watchful eyes of a former fighter “who’s been there, done that” and has the belts to prove it. After turning away from gang life and prison time, “Tito” Tiburon Ocasio was inspired to take his years of experience in the fight game and open the John 3:16 & 17 Boxing Club. Since 2006, the gym has served as a sanctuary to the youth of Ocala, Florida. Aside from boxing classes and mentoring his athletes, Tito uses his platform to spread the gospel. The walls of the old school-looking gym are littered with fight posters, newspaper clippings and mementoes from the many years Tito spent, not only as a fighter himself, but also as a coach, and a boxing manager. The lessons learned at John 3:16 & 17 Boxing Gym equip its members with the tools necessary to survive and thrive in life, as much as in the boxing ring. It’s so important in boxing to surround yourself with the right people; individuals who lift you up, make you better and cheer you on towards success.  Our team of TITLE fighters are our biggest fans, and we are theirs. Team TITLE consists of boxers in all areas across the sport, including current professionals, elite amateurs, beginning boxers, coaches, and former fighters.  Some are names you may recognize, like world champions, “USS” Steve Cunningham, Bones Adams, Paul Spadafora, Oleh Dovhun, Yaqui Lopez or up-and-coming stars, Joseluis Castillo Jr., Shane Mosley Jr. Danny Luna, Jeovanny Estela or Andy Dominguez. Our coaches, Tom Yankello, Michael McSorley, Christopher Simmons, Tito Ocasio and others are also considered some of the best in the game. Together, these athletes and coaches are not only our best source of inspiration, but also provide a continuous flow of knowledge and insight.  Having them on our team makes us better, but even greater than that, is that they’re all more like family and that’s the way boxing should be.
